MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N interface with TMDSDOCK28335

Dear Experts,
I am working on building a three-phase voltage source inverter (VSI) using the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N SpeedVal Kit. I have already purchased the following components:
- MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N (motherboard)
- MOD-PWR-MM-C3M0032120K (power module)
- CGD12HB00D (differential signal adapter)
My application involves switching the VSI at 100 kHz using sinusoidal PWM. I do not wish to use the HVP-56F83783 control card from NXP. Instead, I will use the TMDSDOCK28335 (TI F28335) development board. I plan to keep the TMDSDOCK28335 externally and leave the control card slot on the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N unoccupied.
Could you please help me with the following:
- Can I connect the PWM output (0–3.3 V, single-ended) from the TMDSDOCK28335 to the CGD12HB00D, and then use its differential output to drive a suitable gate driver module mounted on the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N? If so, please recommend a compatible gate driver module.
- Is it possible to mount the CGD12HB00D directly onto the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N?
- How can I take the sensed output voltage and current from the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N and connect it safely to the ADC inputs of the TMDSDOCK28335?
- I understand that the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N requires a 12 V auxiliary DC supply. Do I also need a external isolated DC power supply for the gate driver module?

- 1. Can I connect the PWM output (0–3.3 V, single-ended) from the TMDSDOCK28335 to the CGD12HB00D, and then use its differential output to drive a suitable gate driver module mounted on the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N? If so, please recommend a compatible gate driver module.
You do not need the CGD12HB00D. The Speedval mainboard already has differential transceivers onboard. Since you are not using the NXP controller card, you can inject your single ended PWM signals via connector CON11.
Any of the gate driver modules will work for your application. Depending on which features/fault protection you might want, one may be better suited than another. Some have short circuit protection, some have Miller clamps. I’d recommend you take a look at features table on the Speedval webpage and decide which one will fit your application best.
2. Is it possible to mount the CGD12HB00D directly onto the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N?
NA
3. How can I take the sensed output voltage and current from the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N and connect it safely to the ADC inputs of the TMDSDOCK28335?
You have a couple of options for this. All the voltage and current feedback signals are available at the control card connector and you could get them from there. The other option is there are test points placed at the output of each voltage sense differential amplifier and each current sensor output. You could grab the signals there as well. I have attached the schematic.
4. I understand that the MOD-MB-3P-0900V-40A-N requires a 12 V auxiliary DC supply. Do I also need a external isolated DC power supply for the gate driver module?
No, the gate driver modules all receive the required 12V from the mainboard through the ribbon cables.
