Suitable gate driver for the CAB6R0A23GM4T

Hello,

I would like to know from you if you think that the UCC587x or the newer UCC588x gate drivers are suitable for driving the CAB6R0A23GM4T power module at 20kHz - 30kHz switching frequency? Do you see any concerns with using any of these ICs to drive the high dVdt power modules?

Hi Prathik,

I just spoke with our contacts at TI regarding the UCC587x and UCC588x drivers and their suitability for the 2.3 kV GM4 module. They recommended the UCC588x series, and noted that the reinforced working voltage isolation rating for the part is 1 kV, which may be lower than your intended bus voltage with this module. Operating at a higher bus voltage is absolutely achievable with this gate driver, but it may only meet functional safety isolation requirements, so its suitability will depend on the requirements of your application. They also mentioned that the next revision of the UCC588x datasheets will contain the time-dependent dielectric breakdown (TDDB) curve to check the intrinsic lifetime of the part while operating at higher working voltages. If reinforced isolation is a requirement for your system and you're intending to operate above a 1 kV bus voltage, they have some suggestions to meet these requirements with the UCC588x, and I'd recommend reaching out directly to TI.
