thermal model of CAB450M12XM3

I am an electrical engineering student at the Polytechnic of Turin, for a power electronics project we have to create the thermal model using plecs, we have chosen the CAB450M12XM3 module which, however, does not have the thermal resistance value between case and heatsink in its datasheet. We want to use the CP3012 heatsink and therefore we need the thermal resistance value case to heatsink. Could you help me? Thanks in advance!

    Hello,

Thank you for your question. There are several factors that can influence the thermal resistance outside of the module including the TIM material selected as well as the coldplate, fluid temperature, fluid composition, and flow rate.

Since this is for a simulation project, we can give you some guidance on realistic thermal resistances based on past testing with the CP3012 and off the shelf TIM grease. For this, we recommend using a conservative value of 0.08 °C/W per position (covering both grease and coldplate). This is a reasonable value for standard grease and nominal flow rates of 4 LPM per module with 65°C water ethylene glycol (WEG). There are methods for lowering this value such as using higher performance grease and increasing flow rate, but this value should give you a reasonable starting point to model the thermal resistance outside the module.

Let us know if you have further questions relating to this topic.

    Thanks,

    Dan
