SiC mosfet diodes

In bi-directional DC-Dc converters it is convenient to use the reverse diode included in the SiC mosfet. Is this always advisable or should you consider adding SiC Shottky diodes? The voltage drop is kind of high on the included diodes but it is a drag to have to add additional components.

The conduction time for the body diode is very short compared to the ON time of the MOSFET, therefore the power loss caused by the body diodes is not significant. Generally, no external SiC diodes are needed. Adding SiC diodes of course can improve the robustness of the design should there be high surge current flowing through the device from source to drain. However, this will add complexity and cost to the system.
