Maximum load capacity of TO-247-4 device
Hi
My customer considering to use retaining spring to mount on the heatsink. Here I got a question from them, what is the maximum load capacity (kgf) of TO-247-4 package they can apply? Or please let me know the recommended load capacity if it exists. The customer is using C3M0016120K.
Thank you for your support.
Best Regards,
Hiroshi

Hi Hiroshi,
For TO-247 packages, a 15N minimum clamping force is suggested to provide the best thermal performance with a maximum force of 150N/mm^2 to prevent any package damage.

Hi William,
Thank you so much for the answer.
Regarding the suggested 15N clamping force, is the unit N, not N/mm^2? Is it OK to apply load anywhere on the mold resin even corner? Or should apply load to center of the package?
Best Regards,
Hiroshi

Hi Hiroshi,
Yes the minimum suggested clamping force is 15N/mm^2.
It is suggested that the clamping force be applied to the center of the package as damage can occur to the mold compound or die inside when uneven pressure is applied to the corners of the package alone
Thanks
William

Hi William,
I also confused by the description of " with a maximum pressure of 150N/mm^2".
it means the maximum pressure the clip can offer? or maximum pressure the package can bear?
please see the highlight in below picture. thanks!

Hello Tangwei,
This refers to the absolute maximum pressure that should be applied to the package to prevent any damage or loss of performance/reliability
