Static and Dynamic Gate-Source Voltage of SiC MOSFETs
Hi,
The CPM2-1200-0025A datasheet has two parameters: gate-source voltage (dynamic) - VGSmax, and gate-source voltage (static) - VGSop. Could you please clarify the difference between the two parameters? Also, what is the meaning of the footnote "MOSFET can also safely operate at VGS = 0/+20 V"?
I really appreciate any help you can provide.
Best regards,
Ayodhya

Hello,
The VGSop values are the recommended drive voltages for the device. When switching the device there are sometimes undershoots and overshoots on the gate voltage that exceed the recommended VGSop values. For these transient events, the devices can go to the voltages listed in the VGSmax rating listed in the datasheet.
In some applications it is preferred to not use a negative voltage rail on the gate to turn off the device. The note: "MOSFET can also safely operate at VGS = 0/+20 V" means that this device is able to be used safely for those situations.
Thank you!
