firmware of CRD25DA12N-FMC - 3 ph inverter
Is it possible to use the firmware of the CRD25DA12N-FMC reference design to adjust the switching frequency of the inverter? In the datasheet, it is mentioned that the switching frequency range of this reference design is ranging from typ =20kHz to max = 100kHz. Is it possible to control this frequency by the firmware? if yes, what part of the firmware should be changed?

Hi sjnaghibi,
There is a variable in the code for switching frequency that can be set to the desired value. Alternatively, you can change the switching frequency on the fly via the CAN communication GUI. Both the firmware and CAN GUI will be released on the website soon for this reference design, but both are very similar to our 300kW XM3 inverter kit.

Hi JHayes,
Thanks for the reply. So if we buy the 25kW inverter reference design, can we modify the 300kX XM3 firmware and use it for the 25kW inverter? Is the firmware of 300kX XM3 open-source?

The 25kW inverter will have its own firmware and CAN GUI that you will be able to download. Both are open source, you just need fill out the request form once it is available. But the basic source code is very similar between the two inverters, just the pinout and peripheral initialization are different because the 25kW inverter uses the TMDSCNCD280039C controlCARD, whereas the 300kW inverter uses the LAUNCHXL-F28379D launchPAD.

thanks very much for the detailed response. Procurement wise, I checked the common suppliers and they didn't have this reference design in stock. Is there any chance we can buy it from Wolfspeed directly? cheers.

There should be a few units becoming available through some of the distributors soon:

Otherwise, you can work with your local sales and FAE team on the best way to source a unit.

Thanks for the guidance. Is this reference design able to operate in open loop conditions? I mean is it possible to use the board if we don't have any measurements from the motor side (Encoder, position sensor, etc)?

Yes, it can operate open loop. Any feedback or closing the loop would be completed at your discretion.
