Double Pulse Testing on 3 Lead TO-247 devices on the TO-247-4 Power Daughter Cards.

Is it feasible to run the Double Pulse test on TO-247 3 Lead IGBTs/MOSFETs using the TO-247-4 Power Daughter Cards?

Will the absence of the kelvin connection drastically affect the ringing on the waveform?

    Greetings Roman,

We don't recommend running the TO-247-3 on the TO-247-4 daughtercard. The main issue is the pins are in different order and would require significant lead bending to fit the part into the board. It is certainly possible that you could get it to function but there's no way to predict how much the switching behavior would be adversely affected.

Later this year, there will be a TO-247-3 daughtercard released which would be ideal for your testing.

I was able to find a way to connect the leads without tremendous ringing. Do I have to short together the power source of the TO-247-3 device to the kelvin source terminal of the daughter card? Or is there another way to ground Vgs lower?

It is difficult to say as you are using the part in a pcb that it is not intended to be used in. That said, shorting together the power source and Kelvin source at the pcb footprint would make the layout most closely resemble a TO-247-3L layout.
