25 kW FM3 Three-Phase Inverter CRD25DA12N-FMC
Hello,
Could you please tell me the minimum DC link voltage that can be used for a 25 kW FM3 three-phase inverter?
Thank you.

Hello Sachith,
There is no minimum rating. However, the power module MOSFETs are 1200V rated, so performance begins to deteriorate at very low voltages. Additionally, the maximum output voltage and power decrease as the input voltage decreases. We recommend operating the system with a DC input voltage of 800V to achieve the highest performance from the power module.
Thanks,

Hello Chris,
Thank you very much for the response. My requirement is a 400V DC input, so I think I can use this one. Do you think this works for me? Also, my maximum power requirement is 15kW.
Thank you.

Hello Sachith,
The system should be fine at 400V. Please note that you will not be able to achieve 480VAC with this input voltage since the inverter is unable to boost the output voltage. Due to the low input voltage, you will be unable to hit your target output power. The power module is limited to an output of 30Arms, regardless of the voltage (we recommend not operating continuously at this current). Using a power factor of one and assuming a lossless system, the highest theoretical output power you could achieve is 14.5kW (analysis below). In actuality, this value would be lower.
Thanks,
Chris N.

Hello Chris,
Thank you very much for your clarification, it was nice. I need to discuss the DC link voltage value with my team (if we can increase that value). If I need additional information, I will reach out to you. Thanks again.Best
Sachith.

Hello Chris,
We've clarified our doubts about the DC link voltage for the inverter. Before proceeding with the product order, I need to verify one more detail.
I reviewed the user manual and noticed that both CCS and the GUI provided by Wolfspeed can be used to control the inverter. Does this mean we can access the control functions within CCS and customize the code as needed? I attempted to download the firmware and GUI to get a basic understanding, but it seems I need approval first.
Additionally, could you confirm that we won’t require any additional hardware or software to operate the inverter? Your help in clarifying these points would be much appreciated.
Thank you!
Best,
Sachith

Hello Sachith,
Thank you for your interest in the product. Once approved to download the firmware, you can modify the firmware within CCS as needed for your application. Please note that the default firmware on the product only supports open-loop sine pulse width modulation (SPWM), so any closed-loop solutions would be up to the end user to develop. They is no additional software required to operate open-loop SPWM. To interface with the hardware via CAN, you will need a CAN adapter such as the PCAN adapter by PEAK System. More information about connecting and using the Wolfspeed CAN GUI can be found in Sections 7 and 8 of the "XM3 Three Phase Inverter Reference Design User Guide" found here.
Thanks,
Chris N.

Hello Chris,
Thank you for your response.
Just to confirm, does this mean we use CCS to modify the firmware and the Wolfspeed GUI to run the inverter, or can both software be used to drive the inverter?
From my understanding, we would use CCS to modify and upload the firmware to the TMS28003x control card, then use CAN communication with the GUI to run the inverter. Could you please confirm if this is correct or clarify if there’s another method?
Thank you,
Sachith.

Hello Sachith,
The inverter will work out-of-the-box without requiring any changes in CCS. If you connect the input 12V barrel jack, CAN adapter, input DC power, and output AC load (adhering to relevant safety precautions), you will be able to control the inverter using the GUI. This video shows the setup and inverter operation. If you want to make any changes to the default firmware, you can re-program the controller using CCS.
Thanks,
Chris N.

Hello Chris,
That sounds good! Just to confirm, does this mean that when purchasing the inverter, it comes with the controller card included?
Thank you for clarifying
